(MOFA) On 01 September 2021, answering a question on Viet Nam’s response to China’s official enforcement of its amended Maritime Traffic Safety Law, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that:
All countries should strictly observe international treaties to which they are parties, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) - the legal foundation of all activities at seas and in the oceans, while promulgating domestic legal documents pertaining to maritime issues.
Viet Nam remains steadfast and unflagging in carrying out measures in line with international law to exercise and safeguard its sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly Islands, and its sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the waters as provided by the 1982 UNCLOS.
