On March 29, 2025, in Hanoi, the State
Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, under the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, solemnly organized the Launching Ceremony for the Day of Honor for the
Vietnamese Language and the 2025 Vietnamese Language Ambassadors Abroad
Contest.
The event was chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang,
with the participation of representatives from various ministries, departments,
and sectors in the country, language and cultural experts, overseas Vietnamese,
and a large number of journalists. Notably, the ceremony also had online
participation from approximately 100 online locations, including localities in
the country, Vietnamese diplomatic agencies abroad, and overseas Vietnamese
community organizations.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị Thu Hằng
speaks at the Launching Ceremony.
In her speech, Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Thị
Thu Hằng stated, "Vietnamese language is not only a means of communication
but also the essence of the nation, embodying the cultural identity of Vietnam
through thousands of years of history. This is the key factor that connects the
overseas Vietnamese community with their ethnic roots." The Deputy
Minister reviewed the achievements made after two years of implementing the
Project for the Day of Honor for the Vietnamese Language in the overseas Vietnamese community. During this time, the
responding activities have taken place vigorously in various rich forms, with
the active participation of domestic agencies, localities, and a large number
of expatriates worldwide. With the spirit of "Preserving the Vietnamese
language, preserving the Vietnamese soul," the Deputy Minister called on
the overseas Vietnamese community, organizations, and each individual to work
together to preserve and promote the Vietnamese language. Using Vietnamese
language not only in the family but also in the learning, working, and
international exchange environment will contribute to preserving the cultural
identity of the nation.
Vietnamese representative diplomatic agencies abroad
and Vietnamese associations abroad participate the event online.
Also at the ceremony, Deputy Head of the State Committee for Overseas
Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Manh Dong officially announced the “2025 Vietnamese
Language Ambassadors Abroad Contest." This is a meaningful platform aimed
at seeking and honoring individuals who have made outstanding contributions to
preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language globally. Deputy Head Nguyen
Manh Dong called on expatriates to actively respond and participate in the
contest.
The “2025 Vietnamese Language
Ambassadors Abroad Contest” will take place from March 29 to July 27,
consisting of three rounds: Preliminary, Semi-Final, and Final. The contestants
are Vietnamese people living, working, and studying abroad, as well as
foreigners living abroad who love Vietnamese culture and language and are
proficient in Vietnamese. The top 5 outstanding contestants will be honored and
awarded the title "The 2025 Vietnamese Language Ambassador Abroad" at
the beloved Vietnamese Language Gala program, scheduled to be held in Hanoi on
September 8, 2025.
In addition, the
organizers of the ceremony also announced several activities in response to the
Vietnamese Language Honor Day to spread love for the mother tongue and
encourage overseas Vietnamese to preserve and promote the ethnic language
identity. Specifically, Vietnam Television (VTV4) introduced the programs
"Vietnamese language is not difficult" and "Fun with Vietnamese
language." These programs will help Vietnamese people living abroad,
especially the younger generation, to learn and use Vietnamese more easily and
vividly.
The Vietnam Studies
Center and the Bamboo Japanese Language School (Japan) launched a contest for
"Vietnamese Speech, Drawing, and Learning Contest about Vietnam" and
announced the launch of a Vietnamese language bookcase built by the community.
This is a valuable playground that helps the Vietnamese community in Japan,
especially the younger generation, connect more with the culture and language
of their homeland, while also creating opportunities for them to naturally
improve their Vietnamese language skills.
