On June 15, at the Dong Nai provincial Convention and Event
Center, the Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - ASEAN
Friendship Association of the province coordinated with the Malaysian Consulate
General in Ho Chi Minh City to organize the Celebration for the 50th
Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and
Malaysia.
At the Celebration, there were leaders of Dong Nai province including:
Mr. Ho Thanh Son, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr.
Thai Bao, Member of the Provincial Standing Party Committee, Chairman of the
Provincial People's Council; Mr. Huynh Thanh Binh, Member of the Provincial
Standing Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Party Committee's
Inspection Commission; Mr. Nguyen Son Hung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial
People's Committee. For representatives of Consulate General of countries, there
were Ms. Wong Chia Chiann, Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr.
Chan Sorykan, Consul General of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Agustaviano
Sofjan, Consul General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City and representatives of
the Consulate General of Laos and Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking to
welcome the event, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen
Son Hung emphasized that, along with localities across the country, Dong Nai
has made many contributions in the process of building relationships between
the two peoples and between localities of Malaysia and Dong Nai. Malaysia is
currently Vietnam's 2nd largest trading partner in ASEAN and Vietnam’s 9th largest
trading partner in the world. Vietnam is Malaysia's third largest trading
partner in ASEAN. In Dong Nai, Malaysia is one of 6 ASEAN countries investing
in the province with 18 projects with a total registered capital of more than
200 million USD. In addition, in recent years, Dong Nai businesses have also
imported many raw materials for industrial production and consumer goods from
ASEAN countries and Malaysia such as chemicals, iron and steel, machinery and
equipment... Besides, tourism promotion activities between Dong Nai people and
Malaysia are also carried out.

Chiann, Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed her sincere
thanks to the leaders of Dong Nai province for the attention in the process of
building diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Malaysia; at the same time, emphasized
that Dong Nai province has a very close relationship with the Malaysian
Consulate General. Ms. Wong Chia Chiann also expected that exchange activities,
people-to-people diplomacy, and economic investment will continue to be
promoted between Dong Nai and localities in Malaysia.

On this occasion, Ms. Wong Chia Chiann presented the medals as a thank you
for the attention and support of Dong Nai province in recent times to Mr. Ho
Thanh Son - Permanent Deputy Secretary of Dong Nai province Party Committee,
Mr. Nguyen Son Hung – Dong Nai province Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman
of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tri - Chairman of the Dong
Nai province Union of Friendship Organizations, Mr. Mai Van Nhon - Chairman of
the Dong Nai province Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association.
Special
performances at the Celebration
At the Celebration,
delegates enjoyed unique art performances by the Malaysian and Dong Nai Art
Troupes. The performances showed the diverse cultural picture, imbued with the
national identities of Malaysia and Vietnam through vibrant, colorful dances
and the performance of musical instruments with unique sounds of each country.
Art performances not only make the Anniversary more lively and impressive but
also show the connection and friendship between the two countries.
