The President meets the village elders, village heads, and typical ethnic minority artisans

On the occasion of the Vietnam Ethnic Culture Day, on the morning of April 19, at the Presidential Palace, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with a delegation of typical ethnic minority village elders, village leaders and artisans.

Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Mr. Do Van Chien - Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; leaders of a number of central ministries, departments and sectors and 92 delegates who are village elders, village leaders, ethnic minority artisans who have made great contributions to the cultural traditions conservation, preservation and promotion of the villages also attended.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the leaders of the Party, State, and Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent to the ethnic minority village elders, village leaders, artisans, and prestigious people deep feelings, sincere and best wishes.

The President affirmed that the work of caring for and improving the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities has received more and more attention and markedly improved, especially projects and policies which conserve and promote the cultural values of the ethnic groups, an integral part of Vietnamese culture. The Resolution of the 13th Party Congress clearly stated that “Developing a comprehensive human and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity so that culture can truly become an endogenous force, a driving force for national development and defense." That affirm the role of culture in the sustainable development of the country.

Citing the speech of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference: Culture remains, the nation remains, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that culture is the soul of the country so that all generations of Vietnamese people must have the responsibility to unite, preserve and develop culture associated with socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security.

The President appreciated the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for coordinating with other departments, sectors, and localities to organize meaningful cultural events at the Vietnam National Villages for Ethnic Culture and Tourism. These events converge on the "common home" with unique festivals, cultural activities, traditional arts, and rituals recognized as intangible cultural heritage representing humanity, Nation intangible cultural heritage, colorful festivals vividly formed in the cultural flow of ethnic groups by artisans, village elders, village leaders, and prestigious people.

The President emphasized that the village elders, village leaders, artisans and prestigious people among the ethnic minorities are typical, exemplary and key people in local movements who help "keeping the fire" in the villages. The important contribution is clearly demonstrated by mobilizing ethnic minorities to preserve and promote their national cultural identity, nice customs and habits, cultural heritage, traditional festivals, and abolis backward customs, eliminating superstition. They are acting as a bridge between the Party Committee, the government and the people, actively contributing to the building of the grassroots political system, maintaining security and strengthening national unity bloc. They also actively contribute to hunger eradication, poverty alleviation, and new rural construction.

Referring to the limitations in policies for prestigious people, the President asked ministries, departments, sectors and localities to focus on overcoming, researching, perfecting and implementing in order to further promote the role of prestigious people in ethnic minority areas. Thereby, contributing to the effective implementation of the Party's ethnic work and the State's ethnic policy.

In addition, it is necessary to regularly take care of the material and spiritual life of reputable people, thereby encouraging them to actively participate and fulfill their tasks in coordination with the Party committees and local authorities. Moreover, creating conditions for reputable people to participate in the development of programs and plans for economic, cultural, and social development; local patriotic emulation movements, and grassroots mediation. Information on the socio-economic situation should be provided promptly along with knowledge and skills training... so that reputable people can grasp thoughts and aspirations and promptly propagate and mobilize the ethnic community to abide by the guidelines and lines of the Party, policies, and laws of the State, contributing to well-performing the tasks of socio-economic development, ensuring security and national defense in the locality.

The President also noted that along with preserving and promoting cultural values, it is necessary to focus on hunger eradication and poverty reduction, improving the living standards of ethnic minority people, and reducing the poverty rate to the lowest level. Besides, focusing on spreading and spreading the typical examples of village elders and village leaders in the community.

Furthermore, actively preserve and promote culture, art, and many traditional national art forms; transmission of tangible and intangible cultural values; pay special attention to the education of the younger generations. According to the President, through the connection of culture, we will easily understand and love each other, contributing to building Vietnamese strength and Vietnamese values for today and in the future.

The President requested to do better the study promotion work to raise the general literacy rate among ethnic minorities; pay more attention to teaching, preserving, and maintaining the use of national languages, thereby affirming the existence and existence in the Vietnamese ethnic community.
