Vietnam - Laos relations: the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation

Dong Nai celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos
 

On July 14, in Bien Hoa City, the Provincial People's Committee held a Ceremony to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2022) and the 45th Anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2022).

At the Ceremony, there was the attendance of Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Thanh Son and Vice Chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang. On the Laos representatives, there were Mr. Amphay Souvanhnaseng, Consul of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Ho Chi Minh City and Lao students studying in the province.

On behalf of the Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, Vice Chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang presenting congratulatory flowers to Mr. Amhay Souvanhnaseng, Consul of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Ho Chi Minh City.​

Speaking at the Ceremony, Vice Chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang emphasized that in 1962, Vietnam and Laos officially established diplomatic relations. Then, in 1977, the two parties signed the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, affirming their comradeship and brotherhood, committing to stand side by side in the cause of independence, peace and development. socio - economic development of each country.

Along with the whole country, Dong Nai has carried out many activities of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people – to – people diplomacy in order to contribute to cultivating the friendship between the two countries and their people. Since 2011, the Provincial People's Committee has officially established and signed Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Champasak Province. The Provincial People's Committee has organized 10 delegations to visit and work in Laos and financed more than 4 billion VND. Dong Nai has received 13 delegations from Laos to visit and work in the province. The province has awarded 205 scholarships to Lao students to study at 9 Universities, Colleges and High Schools in the province with a total amount of more than 30 billion VND. In addition, the Vietnam - Laos Friendship Association of Dong Nai province has 33 branches and and inter-branches at grassroots level with nearly 1,600 members, contributing to becoming a bridge to tighten the solidarity and friendship between the two countries and between Dong Nai and localities of Laos.

Amphay Souvanhnaseng, the people of the Lao tribes are eternally grateful to the soldiers and the Vietnamese people who side by side fought with the Lao people against the most powerful empires to regain independence and territorial integrity. Many of them have sacrificed their bones and blood, their youth in Laos. Particularly during the pandemic, Vietnam was the first country to assist Laos in the prevention and control of the Covid-19. Currently, Vietnam is one of the largest investors in Laos.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 31 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in promoting Vietnam - Laos relations.
