Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, the friendship and multi-field cooperation between Vietnam and Brunei has been developing well. As members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Vietnam and Brunei together participate actively and proactively, making important contributions in all fields of ASEAN cooperation as well as in the determination of the future development, cooperation direction and major decisions of ASEAN. Thereby, the two parties contribute to strengthening solidarity, enhancing the role and position of ASEAN in the region and in the international arena, maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

The event that Vietnam officially became the 7th member of ASEAN, held in the beautiful Bandar Seri Begawan capital of Brunei in 1995, has become an important milestone in the development history of diplomatic relations between the two countries in particular and Vietnam - ASEAN relations in general. In March of 2019, Vietnam - Brunei established the Comprehensive Partnership, marking an important step forward in terms of quantity and quality in the bilateral relationship, demonstrating the common determination of the two countries' senior leaders in the substantive and effective cooperation, in line with the general trend of the region and the world. In terms of politics, high-level political exchanges between the two countries are maintained regularly. Economically, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Brunei reached more than 250 million USD in 2020 and 2021. As of January 2022, Brunei ranked 25th out of 140 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Male. Brunei, formally Brunei Darussalam is a country located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. bordering the East Sea and Malaysia, close to an important sea route through the East Sea, connecting India Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. Dong Nai is a potential destination for foreign investors as well as ASEAN countries, including Bruneian businesses because of its advantages in transport infrastructure, climate, and topography. Of the six ASEAN countries investing in Dong Nai, Brunei is the third one with about 1.2 billion USD. Dong Nai government always creates favorable conditions for Brunei businesses to operate effectively.

Besides economic cooperation, Dong Nai province is also very interested in people-to-people exchange activities. In 2021, the Dong Nai government established the Vietnam - ASEAN Friendship Association of the province with 167 members, playing the role of a bridge of friendship between the people of Dong Nai and the people of ASEAN countries in general and with those of Brunei in particular. Through friendship exchanges with diplomatic missions, Bruneian businesses are cooperating and investing in the province. The establishment of the Association has created a new development in the friendship relationship between the people of the province and those of ASEAN countries, including Bunei. It demonstrates the importance and practical significance in promoting the relationship between the two countries through exchange activities, cooperation opportunities, solidarity and friendship activities.
